For the past few months, I’ve been working as a freelance developer on an incredibly exciting project at @[Vopak](urn:li:organization:8432), building a custom middleware system designed to automate and standardize terminal communications. A solution that is going to significantly optimize operational costs across the board. Most of my development time has been spent connecting to a simulated environment, but we are reaching a huge milestone: in the upcoming weeks, the software is being deployed to the pre live environments within the terminals! Writing applications with Node.js that interface directly with physical industrial machinery (via OPC UA) is a whole different ball game compared to traditional web development. It’s code meeting a strict real-world environment where actions have real physical consequences🫣. I’m incredibly curious and excited to see how the system handles the real-world test with actual OT infrastructure. Fingers crossed for these upcoming runs! I’m really hoping we get this test done very soon so that I have plenty of time to catch and fix any potential edge cases or issues before my freelance contract ends at the end of July. My ultimate goal is to leave the team with a beautifully performing, stable and resilient piece of software. "Building an app is only half the battle. Getting approved by the big tech companies is the other half. 🚀 I want to share my experience so you know what to expect. Google was amazing. They reviewed our application and gave us the green light very quickly. ✅ Meta took a bit longer. They wanted to see exactly how our app works. After sending some videos and explanations, we got the approval. 📹 But LinkedIn has been a real headache. 😫 We can post to personal profiles, but getting permission for LinkedIn Pages is tough. The support has been very slow. It takes 10 days or more to get a reply. Sometimes the answers do not even match my questions. I actually closed my ticket and started over.
