Major technology companies from the United States have pledged to invest tens of billions of pounds in the United Kingdom. The move has prompted bold predictions about the country’s future in the field of artificial intelligence.
A landmark investment
The biggest single commitment comes from Microsoft, which announced a spending package of $30 billion (£22 billion). As reported by major news outlets, this is the company’s largest-ever investment outside of the US.
The pledge is part of a larger £31 billion agreement between the UK government and several US tech giants. The head of the technology firm Nvidia, Jensen Huang, expressed strong confidence in the country’s potential.
In a statement to BBC News, Mr Huang said, “This is the week that I declare the UK will be an AI superpower.”
